Why Laramie County’s Ranching Heritage?

The CFD Old West Museum has a deep interest in preserving the rich history which formed Laramie County, and desires to recognize the ranch/farm families of the agricultural industry in this county.  Ranching and farming have been a way of life since settlement for numerous families in Laramie County and continues with several generations following, many occupying the same ranch buildings and owning the same land today.  Ranching and farming in Laramie County has been the most recognizable and prominent industry since Laramie County was formed in 1867.  Wyoming has been referred to as the Cowboy State because of the livestock industry.  It is important to keep ranching and farming alive; and as the core of Laramie County’s history, the rancher/farmer knows the land better than anyone else, preserves the land better than anyone else, and produces pure products to help feed the world.  It is essential to preserve this vast history and way of life loved by so many, and the CFD Old West Museum strives to be an active part in conserving this cultural heritage.

The Carriage Ball is the Museum’s annual gala and all proceeds benefit the Cheyenne Frontier Days old West Museum and it’s programming.

What do the proceeds support?

  • Cultural programs highlighting Cheyenne’s vibrant history
  • Preservation of our collections including textiles and carriages
  • Visiting and temporary exhibits at the museum
  • Western Spirit Art Show & Sale
  • Family-friendly events including the annual Kids Cowboy Festival
  • Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
  • Events featuring panel discussions on contemporary Western issues
  • Education programs customized to the needs of local school children
