Interactive learning displays and other hands-on activities await visitors of all ages into our wildly popular kids room. Whether you're a young cowpoke looking to try your hand at roping or a young cowgirl wanting to try your hand at hide painting or other crafts, the CFD Old West Museum offers a safe, family friendly environment in which visitors of all ages can learn about our region's western heritage. The kids room remains open daily and is available for party rentals for birthdays.

The CFD™ Old West Museum offers educational workshops once a month on Saturday mornings from 10am-12 noon. The workshops will run October 2011 through April 2012, and are only $10.00 per student. Or purchase all 7 classes for $50.00 and receive a $20.00 discount. AGES 5-12
November 5, 2011 (Registration Deadline November 2)
Create a Western Art Sculpture
The Museum is curating and presenting the Dan Garrett exhibit opening, November 4, 2011. In conjunction with the exhibit the Museum will present a sculpting class, students will tour the Garrett exhibit and create a beautiful sculpture to take home. Dan Garrett produces limited edition bronze sculptures. His award winning work portrays Native Americans, wildlife, and Pre-Columbian inhabitants of North America.

A Pioneer Christmas
By the mid 1800s the American Christmas tradition included much of the same customs and festivities as is does today, including tree decorating, gift-giving, Santa Claus, greeting cards, stockings by the fire, church activities and family-oriented days of feasting and fun.
Students will learn about the traditions of the Pioneer Christmas and create a homemade gift for a family member.

Parades and Carriages
During Cheyenne Frontier Days do you ever ask yourself where all of those Parade Carriages come from? Come explore and learn about the rich uniqueness of the Cheyenne Frontier Days Carriages. And build a Carriage to take home with you.
February 4, 2012 (Registration Deadline February 1)
Miss Frontier
Students will look at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Miss Frontier exhibit and learn about the unique history behind this celebrated CFD character and create a beaded leather purse that is signature accessory to the Miss Frontier Buckskin.
March 24, 2012 (Registration Deadline March 21)
Western Spirit Art Show and Sale – Western Perspectives
In celebration of this exceptional event students will get to tour the show and create a piece of work in conjunction with the exhibit. Students will be asked important questions and such as: What is the west you live in today? How has the glorification of the west affected your perspective? What images come to mind when thinking of the west?
April 27, 2012 (Registration Deadline April 4)
Saturday Morning Cartoons
In conjunction with the Museum’s exhibit of Denver Post Cartoonist Paul Gregg, the Museum will present Saturday Morning Cartoons! Students will tour the exhibit and illustrate their very own cartoon.

Kids' Cowboy Festival

Bring the whole family to the CFD Old West Museum for the 16th Annual Kids’ Cowboy Festival Saturday, June 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CFD Old West Museum. This FREE event features western entertainment and western crafts including hide painting, branding, quilting, beading, and much, much more. Children are encouraged to wear western attire and compete in the Cowgirls of the West “Best Dressed Buckaroo” contest. Childrens Summer Camps:
This summer the CFD Old West Museum will offer two fun-filled, educational camps. All camps are designed for children 5 to 12 years old. Cost per student: $100 museum members; $125 non-members. Fees include art supplies and snacks. Sack lunches and water bottles required. Registration deadline is 2 weeks prior to each camp. 30-Day cancellation policy. Space is limited! Register today!

Ghosts of the West
October 20, 2012
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Join the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum for some good old fashioned Halloween fun on Saturday, October 20th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tour the Museum, meet historic western characters, go on a scavenger hunt and create a trick or treat bag. Enjoy cookies, cider, candy and show off your costume. Bring in your best carved pumpkin for a Jack O’ Lantern contest!
It’s free for children under 12, as well for Museum members. Non-Museum member parents are just $5.00.
