Historic Carriages and Wagons

of Cheyenne and the Old West

The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum's collection of nearly 150 horse drawn vehicles ranks it among the largest collections of historic carriages and wagons in the United States. The collection includes specialized wagons from local Cheyenne businesses, including ice wagons, a milk wagon and an ambulance. Two wheel carts and a fine example of a rare Drop Front Phaeton are on display. Many vehicles in the collection are paraded during Cheyenne Frontier Days while others in the collection can only be seen at the museum.

History of Cheyenne Frontier Days

The museum collection includes the archives of Cheyenne Frontier Days from 1897 to the present including thousands of photographs, memorabilia, programs, participants lists, rodeo rules, listings of rodeo champions for each year and other promotional materials. The museum exhibit, "Cheyenne Frontier Days: A Legend Walking Tall" showcases the evolution of Cheyenne Frontier Days™ into "The Daddy of 'em All".

Cheyenne Frontier Days

Hall of Fame

Created in 2002, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame honors the people and livestock that contributed fame to "The Daddy of 'em All" and celebrates those volunteers who have helped grow Cheyenne Frontier Days into the world's largest outdoor rodeo and western celebration. The Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum collects representative materials for each of the inductees and hosts the annual induction ceremony honoring new inductees.

Museum Purchases Collection

In each year since the first Western Art Show and Sale in 1981, the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum has been the beneficiary of one or more pieces of donated outstanding western art. Over the last 25 years, the collection has grown to represent among the finest collections of western sculpture, paintings and fiber art in the region.
