In an effort to capture this sense of what makes Cheyenne Frontier Days™, the world’s greatest outdoor rodeo, special the Old West Museum is proud to announce the opening of its new permanent exhibit “Cheyenne Frontier Days™: A Legend Walking Tall.”  The new display allows the visitor to explore CFD™ from its early beginnings.  Like any living thing the rodeo has changed and redefined itself as it grew to become the celebration it is today.  Visitors see past events that have come and gone, they see how the contestant in the rodeo evolved from a ranch-hand looking for a good time and a few extra bucks to a professional athlete who makes the rodeo his livelihood.  The visitor also sees how volunteers saved CFD™ from extinction and how celebrities, Indians and the military have given the celebration its special flavor and its prestigious acumen.

All of these stories are told through the sights, sounds, personal accounts and historic artifacts of Cheyenne Frontier Days™.  This growing and evolving story opened to the public on June 27th, 2003.  Come see for yourself why Cheyenne Frontier Days™ is such an important part of history and why it holds such a special place in the rodeo cowboy’s heart.

"Standing Apart Together"

As we live through these uncertain times, it is a source of comfort to know that there are people who we can turn to who will defend our nation, keep it running, maintain our sense of identity and offer aid when they can.  You can frequently identify these people by the uniforms they wear.  Uniforms in all their guises, both military and civilian, have a special place in our society.  They are used not only to distinguish people as being members of a unique group, but they are also a symbol of what binds people together in a common cause.  On February 15th, the Old West Museum opened a new textile exhibit titled “Standing Apart Together” a display of uniforms from various occupations from the museum’s collection.  On display will be military uniforms from the First and Second World Wars as well as those from the Union Pacific Railroad, the Red Cross and even United Airlines to name a few.  The exhibit will remain up through September 2004 so come see it if you can!
