Georgia Rowswell
Georgia Rowswell, a formally trained artist with a concentration in painting and drawing from the University of Buffalo, developed her artistic skills from an early age under the influence of her mother, Dorothy Stiefler. Inspired by traditional fiber-based artwork, Georgia's work combines fiber art and painterly techniques, resulting in pieces that depict expansive Western landscapes. She breathes new life into discarded clothing and household textiles, infusing her creations with texture, movement, and vibrant colors while also adding layers of narrative. Georgia introduced her eco-friendly approach, known as "compressed fabric," as she believes in the importance of art for individuals and communities. Her art has been exhibited in solo and group shows across the United States, and her works can be found in private and corporate collections, including notable institutions like the University of Grand Island, Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Platte Valley Medical Center, and the Yamana Gold Corporation. In 2016, Georgia received the Visual Arts Fellowship from the Wyoming Arts Council in recognition of her talent. To explore her captivating artwork, one can visit her gallery and studio, Blue Door Arts, situated in the historic Hynds building on 1608 Capitol Ave. in downtown Cheyenne. Whether online or in person, Georgia's art showcases the intersection of her formal training, lifelong influences, and her dedication to creating meaningful and evocative pieces.
