The great constant in all of Will Ersland's art is the horse. From Western Art to Sporting Art, the paintings are always horse-related from Rodeo to Polo. His Western Paintings were featured for fifteen years in the Cheyenne Frontier Days “Western Spirit Art Show,” winning “Best in Show” in 2018,” “Best Acrylic” in 2016 and 2012, and best miniature in 2013. Ersland took home a Best of the West Blue Ribbon and a Best of the Wild Horse 2nd place Ribbon in the Rock Springs Wild Horse Art Show in 2011. In 2020, Ersland was selected to be an artist in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Summer Western Art Show, following it up by showing again in 2021 and 2022, and his work will be seen in the Show in 2023. His work has also been exhibited at March in Montana, 10 years in The Mountain Oyster Art Show in Tucson, AZ, the American Plains Artists show in Texas, and was accepted as a Juried Member in the Association of American Equine Artists with shows in North Carolina, winning “The Sporting Art Award” in 2019, and Best Western Art in 2022. “This love for Western Art is rooted in his interests in horses, riding, and American History.” An avid horse owner and rider, Ersland has fox hunted from fast horseback but these days prefers the slower thrill of trail riding and training his big sport horse Ike. All this riding experience has made him an informed artist on the ways and feel of the horse.
