Linda is a second-career artist who has painted in watercolor most of her adult life.  She had just started exploring the watercolor wax batik method and was painting full time when a bout with breast cancer did three things – she became the “artist-in-residence” on the chemo ward, she lost her hair permanently, and it made her serious about being an artist.  Linda has painted in wax batik ever since.

A significant amount of work goes into the paintings before they ever see a paint brush. Value shapes are identified and the entire composition is color-coded as to when and where the wax will be applied. The paintings are built with alternating layers of melted paraffin wax and watercolor paint –  progressing from the lightest to the darkest values. Individual shapes are strategically waxed when they are as light or dark as the design demands.

Watercolor wax batiks reveal texture, contrasts of light and dark, and luminous layers of color which are the hallmark of this method. The paintings combine blended washes of color with hard-edged abstracted shapes, yielding truly unique works of art.

Linda teaches watercolor wax batik and has won awards in multiple national shows. She is a signature member of Red River Watercolor Society, Colorado Watercolor Society, Western Federation of Watercolor Societies and Rocky Mountain National Watermedia. Her paintings are in public and private collections across the United States.
