Sarah Woods attributes her use of crisp bold colors and dramatic lighting to life at high altitude. For her, one of the most rewarding parts of her career is being able to live in the remote and wildlife rich mountains of south central Colorado. Having lived my life in Wyoming and Colorado she feels passionate about the disappearing western landscape and its incredible wildlife and shefeels a responsibility to document that fragile beauty.

Sarah grew up in Laramie and graduated from UW with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She worked hard and early on she won a national competition and was juried into some of the nation’s finest shows. 42 years ago Sarah had her first solo museum exhibition, right here at the CFD Old West Museum. She has been blessed to have long lasting and successful gallery and show affiliations— showing at Trailside Galleries for 39 years and at the Broadmoor Galleries since their inception. This year marks her34th year showing at Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Western Art Show and her 24th year with the National Museum of Wildlife Art. She’s won some wonderful awards, done a museum retrospective show, been included in countless magazines and three coffee table books.

More recently, Sarah has expressed her love of wildlife by combining gold and sterling silver leaf in some of heroil paintings. Having studied art history while pursuing her BFA, Sarah was fascinated with the use of gold leaf in iconography and the reverence and beauty it brought to the subject matter.
